Best time to visit: April - June and Late Oct can be a good time to visit Phu Quoc with less crowds, cheaper prices and fairly good odds of reasonable weather.

Phu Quoc is everything a tropical island should be. Surrounded by more than 40 kilometres of white beaches decorated with coconut palms, situated in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian border, Phu Quoc is the largest island of Viet Nam. Its western coastline is sparsely populated while the interior is largely covered with jungle and mainly deserted.

Best time to visit: From February to October. From May to October, turtles nest on beaches around the Islands. Moreover, during February - July, the waters around Con Dao are at their clearest for diving.

Con Dao Island once was a prison for political prisoners during the French colonial era. There, the Sai Gon regime imprisoned opponents of the regime in the infamous cells known as the "tiger cages". The old prison buildings still exist and are open to the public as a trace of the island's history. But most of all Con Dao island has plenty of sun, pristine white beaches and delicious fresh seafood.

WEATHER (from May to August)

Weather in Vietnam

In May, the first month of the summer, the average temperature is around 24°C to 32°C. In the north, some parts start to experience rain, although dry days are still prevalent. The central of Vietnam still remains perfect for vacation with bright sunshine, clear sky and cool breeze. The south slowly begins to slip towards its wet season, the rain tends to fall in the afternoon often in short, heavy downpours. Therefore, heading to beaches is a good choice, especially the central beaches of Hoi An, Da Nang and Nha Trang.

In June and July weather is very similar. The temperature stays between 26°C and 33°C. The north experiences heavy rain and lots of thunderstorms. The northern mountains are very wet because of rain. The weather stays warm with bright sunshine in the central of Vietnam. In the central highlands and in Da Lat, rainfall is still on the increase though travel is still possible. The south also experiences lots of rain and high humidity. The showers will be slightly heavier than in previous months you can still expect plenty of dry and bright daylight hours. The central beaches still promise a great deal of sunshine and trekking is unadvisable for most regions.

In August, the weather is mixed with rain and dry in Vietnam. The temperature is around 25°C to 32°C. The north experiences lots of rain and hot weather. A heavy shower with lots of thunderstorms can be experienced in northern cities. The central of Vietnam remains hot and predominantly dry. Da Nang and other central cities experience hot weather with infrequent shower but increasing towards the end of month. The south is firmly into its wet season with daily showers to be expected. However, you can still expect plenty of dry and bright daylight hours.

Weather in Laos

May is the last of month of the hot and dry season. The average temperature is around 27°C to 35°C. The north remains hot; thus, the rain is usually short lived and quickly replaced by blue skies and brilliant sunshine. In the south, the rain can last longer and be more constant.

June, July and August are in the rainy season in Laos with relatively high humidity and a good chance of rain most days. On the other hand, the green vegetation enhances Laos’ considerable charms and the lack of tourists can make it a brilliant time to visit. Like most of South East Asia, the downpour usually lasts an hour or two of very heavy rain, rather than all day. High rainfall makes travel to the more remote region of the country difficult at times. Travel overland in the mountains during the rainy season can be slow and tricky. This period is not a good time to visit Laos.

Weather in Cambodia

In Cambodia, wet season runs from May to October courtesy of the southwest monsoon. The temperature is relatively high (average 30°C - 35°C). Wet season brings some three-quarters of Cambodia’s annual rainfall. July, August and September are the wettest months, it can rain every day. However, rainy days tend to have a few hours of heavy rain rather than being all-day downpours. At this time, floods are frequent in Cambodia. Therefore, travelling by road in these months meet many difficulties.

Naturally, summer is the peak season when domestic travel volume soars, hence, air and train tickets are sold out well in advance. This is one big concern that seems to occur to most holiday travellers. Therefore, EVIVA strongly recommend that you book everything as early as possible..

Most accommodation service may raise the price significantly or even was sold out for a consecutive stay, attributing the "hot season" occasion. Our suggestion is booking accommodations advance.

Besides, you had better know how you’re going to get to your reserved accommodation before departing to the hotels in case your phone dies (or is stolen). Save the address and know your route options.

Miscellaneous Needs

Don’t forget such things as UV cream, sunglasses, medications, a conveniently accessible wallet for travel documents, camera, film, small binoculars, important addresses/phone numbers, a small notebook, etc…

Personal safety is considerable issue in Vietnam. There are some incidents of petty theft hence, travellers should probably be watchful of handbags. Traveling in groups can become inconvenient, but it may be a safer way.
