Viet Nam jumps five grades in tourism competitive edge

Viet Nam ranked the 75th out of 141 countries in the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), five grades higher than 2013. The WEF issues the TTCI report biennially basing on four factors: environment, policy, infrastructure, and natural and cultural resources.

Viet Nam’s tourism environment (security, health care, sanitation) reaches 4.6 out of 7 points, policy (3.7 points), and natural and cultural resources (2.9 points). Infrastructure is evaluated at the lowest level among four criteria.

Although the country has not made many breakthroughs, it has jumped in the TTCI ranking in recent years from 89th/140 countries in 2009 to 80th in 2011 and 2013.(Source: VOV)

Ban Gioc among world’s top 15 amazing waterfalls

Ban Gioc Waterfall in Viet Nam’s northern Cao Bang province has been listed among top 15 most amazing waterfalls in the world, according to Thrillist - a leading US food, drink and travel website.

“Trickling majestically down the rocks, Ban Gioc waterfall only drops a measly 98ft, but is super awesome looking, so size doesn't really matter” said the Thrillist.

Surrounded by picturesque karst peaks, water from Quy Xuan River falling down on the stone creates water droplets columns that can be seen from a distance. The scenery changes according to the seasons. In spring, the flame-red blossoms are in full bloom, whereas it turns golden-yellow in autumn. Its waters become stronger and more violent in summer and during winter the fall’s clear water drops tenderly. At the foot of the waterfall is a large river, as calm as glass, surrounded by many precious kinds of flowers. (Source: Thrillist)

3 destinations out of top 27 amazing natural wonders

Smarter Travel, one of the largest online travel resources of the US, has revealed the world’s top 27 amazing natural wonders in Asia, including 3 destinations in Viet Nam.

Accordingly, Ha Long Bay triumphed the first place in the list. The online travel website suggests that visitors should take one of the overnight cruises offered within the bay and watch the sunset over its tranquil waters.

Son Doong, the world's largest cave, located in central Vietnam took the 19th place. The cave is more than 5.5 miles long and has its own jungle and river. Still, it wasn't even discovered until 1991, or fully explored until 2009.

Can Gio Mangrove Forest is also named in the list. “The Can Gio wetlands support not only thousands of mangroves, but also around 200 different species of wildlife and 150 species of flora”, says the website. (Source: Smarter Travel)

Son Doong Cave tops world’s incredible beauties

Son Doong Cave in Viet Nam’s central Quang Binh ranked first in the list of the top 10 incredible beauties hidden in caves selected by a US travel advisory website.

The website wrote that Son Doong “is indeed very impressive – there is an entire underworld with the jungle and river, waterfalls, unknown plants and fossils. Cave pearls – calcite crystals – are another unique and interesting feature”.

Son Doong Cave, which scientists believe was formed 2-5 million years ago, was later made public in 2009 by a group of British scientists from the British Cave Research Association after they extensively surveyed the area.

Son Doong has a length of at least 6.5 kilometers and is estimated to be 200 meters in width and at least 150 meters in height (its largest chamber reaches an incredible 250 meters in height, enough space to accommodate a 40-storey skyscraper). (Source: VNA)

One of the first questions asked by any traveler is to decide the best time to visit. You are advised to do a quick search or seek advice from travel experts. Check out our brief weather forecast below.

They are rich in taste and available in round or square shapes. Typically, each moon cake has a bright-yellow salted egg-yolk in the center, representing the moon.
